Have you thought about adding some videos to your blog? You might want to try is adding some shorter videos rather than a long video blog. Shorter videos are a great way to capture attention. When you can get them to last less than a minute, you will find that you can get some great results.
Why Do Short Videos Work?
Most people who are surfing on the web at home on their computer or a smartphone do not want to spend too long watching videos, especially videos from a company. While they might be willing to spend hours watching cat videos, they aren’t as likely to want to spend as much time learning about your products. They want the facts and they want them quickly. It can help if it is entertaining as well.
Don’t Make a Commercial
One of the mistakes that you might make is in thinking that you are making a commercial for your blog. This isn’t what you are doing, even though it can feel that way. You want to make sure that you are providing more than just advertising. Provide information, and perhaps a bit of humor. Have a professional writer help you script the video segments so that they flow and they include all of the information you need in as little time as possible. Just remember that advertising isn’t the only purpose. Give people some type of value or information.
When Should You Use Video?
You will find that you can use short videos for a host of different things that might be happening with your business. If you have any new products coming out, the video is a great place to introduce them. You will also be able to touch on any company milestones or events that you might be having. Here are some other fun and useful things that you might want to do with video on your site.
Consider having a contest or a giveaway. You will be able to put up a video telling people about the contest and the rules, and you will be able to use video to announce the winners. This is a great way to get people to come back to your site. You could also have some video testimonials from your clients or customers.
Provide tips and tricks, or have videos about how to use your different products. If you create software, for example, some simple video tutorials could be a great way to show your customers some fun videos and techniques that they might need. It can even reduce the number of emails or calls you get regarding how to do certain things with the software.
Have some bio videos occasionally about some of the different people who work at the company. It’s a great way to humanize the company and to connect with blog readers and watchers.
Where Should You Show the Video?
In addition to having the video on your blog, consider having it on some of the video sharing sites out there. If you have a popular or clever video, you might get lucky and it could even go viral. Imagine what that might do for your business!
Make sure that you keep those videos under a minute, if you can. You should be able to add video to most WordPress templates. Also, you probably will not want to add videos to your site each day. Make sure that written content remains the bulk of what you have to offer on your blog. The videos are little extras that you can add a couple of times a month. Give your readers some time to respond to the videos and see what they think about them. If they are not fans, then you might want to rethink the approach.

Some great ideas here! I was thinking of adding short videos to my posts; you’ve got me convinced!
Marta, that’s great. I think your readers will like this idea too.
Can’t wait to see them 🙂
I was thinking of adding some videos to my blog to make it more interactive but I was not sure if it was okay. So this article has given the thumbs up sign to go ahead and do so. Great article, it’s quite informative. thanks for sharing
Glad you liked it 🙂
It’s funny to see this post now. I spent almost a year planning to start a YouTube channel based on excerpts of my blog posts. I had the idea last year, but I was dealing with huge schedule constraints, so I just worked V-E-R-Y slowly on my first video, which I finally posted yesterday. 🙂
Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGk5t27RbSI
(It certainly won’t take me a whole year to post my second video. 😀 It’s almost ready!)
Even if this effort might not result in the growth of the blog itself, my main purpose is to reach my target audience, translation clients, and I believe these short videos will be more appealing to them.
Anyway, I still don’t know the impact of this new media, but I’ll definitely share the results with you at some point in the future.
Thanks for the tips — I’ll keep them in mind!
Bianca, I love the video!! You did everything yourself, the graphics etc.? Very impressive!
Thanks, Catherine! I’m glad you like it.
I did it myself, using that old trial-and-error method. hehe
In a couple of months I might look back and hate it… but I think it works for now. 🙂
